City College Family Club

The purpose of this club is to actively engage San Diego City College students in the fight for LGBTQIA+ equality, through activism, education, and advocacy. 

“Our mission is to work towards a more accepting environment for queer people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity through education, support, social action, and advocacy. We believe that schools can be truly safe ONLY when every student is assured of access to an education without fear of harassment or violence. In addition, it is also our intent to create alliances that increase awareness, decrease prejudices and create a safe school atmosphere for all.”

Mental Health Resources

San Diego City College provides access to a number of mental health resources for both students and employees. Student resources include free and confidential one-on-one, family and relationship counseling with clinical interns. For more information, contact Mental Health Counseling. The directory aims to create a visible network of supportive staff members who can provide guidance, mentorship, and a safe space for LGBTQ+ students, as well as help foster an inclusive and accepting campus environment for all members of the college community. It also serves as a supportive network for students, faculty, and staff who may be seeking guidance, support, or information regarding LGBTQ+ -related matters on campus.

Point Foundation The LGBTQ Scholarship Fund:	http://pointfoundation.org/scholarships	Point Foundation offers LGBTQ scholarships for students at accredited US schools, universities and colleges. We offer community college scholarships, as well as scholarship programs for students earning undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees	Three types of scholarships available for high school seniors, community college students and BIPOC students varying in award amount.
Markowski-Leach Scholarship	http://mlscholarships.org/	Scholarship for LGBTQ+ students that will be attending/transferring to:  San Francisco State University ,University of California Berkeley, UC College of the Law, University of California San Francisco	The Scholarship award is $2,500 annually for up to two years of eligibility. We will start accepting applications for the 2024-25 academic year in January, 2024.
LEAGUE Foundation	http://www.leaguefoundation.org/	The program is open to self-identified Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer , +, graduating high school seniors meeting the prescribed criteria. Family members and mentors are encouraged to work with applicants to help ensure their submissions are complete.	Applications are usually accepted from January through April.  Decisions are usually made in July. Currently the LEAGUE Foundation has 4 awards for consideration and each student application is automatically reviewed for each. The four awards are:The Laurel Hester Memorial Scholarship (1 award annually) The Matthew Shepard Memorial Scholarship (1 award annually) The Tyler Clementi Memorial Scholarship (1 award annually) The LEAGUE Foundation Scholarship (up to 9 awards annually)

For over 20 years, we have partnered with donors to create scholarships that provide unique opportunities and access to education, both in New York City and throughout the country. Out to Innovate	http://oti.memberclicks.net/scholarships	The Out to Innovate™ Scholarships, established in 2011, are intended for LGBTQ+ undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) programs. The scholarships are designed to promote academic excellence and increased visibility of talented LGBTQ+ students in STEM careers.	The application window is now open. Why are Pronouns Important? 

Pronouns are essential because they recognize and respect an individual's gender identity. They are a fundamental part of inclusive language, allowing people to express themselves authentically and be seen for who they truly are. Using the correct pronouns shows support and validates someone's gender identity, promoting a more inclusive and respectful society. By embracing pronouns, we foster a sense of belonging, promote gender equality, and contribute to a world where everyone's identity is acknowledged and valued.

We Are the Youth

We Are the Youth is an ongoing photographic journalism project chronicling the individual stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer youth in the United States. Through photographic portraits and “as told to” interviews in the participants’ own voices, We Are the Youth captures the incredible diversity and uniqueness among the LGBTQ youth population. We Are the Youth addresses the lack of visibility of LGBTQ young people by providing a space to share stories in an honest and respectful way.

TransFamily Support Services 

TransFamily Support Services guides transgender/non-binary youth and their families through the gender transitioning process to help make it the most positive experience possible. They provide family coaching, assistance with healthcare and insurance issues, help navigating the legal system, and support at schools. All services are provided at no fee.

San Diego Pride

In addition to our annual festivities, San Diego Pride has donated more than $3 million dollars to LGBTQ-serving nonprofits and runs multiple year-round education, advocacy, and community service programs. Pride festivities have grown from a small grassroots march for equal rights into the largest civic event in the region, with activities that span a full week of celebrating the LGBTQ community.

The Gender Phluid Collective

A safer, supportive, and empowering home for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), Queer and Trans People of color (QTPOC), and those who identify within the African Diaspora in San Diego. GPC provides support groups, resources for community health services, and mental health services as well as helps provide items for those transitioning, or just needing a little help maintaining. We do welcome everyone to our space, but we do have boundaries and ask that these boundaries are respected.
