“Our mission is to work towards a more accepting environment for queer people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity through education, support, social action, and advocacy. We believe that schools can be truly safe ONLY when every student is assured of access to an education without fear of harassment or violence. In addition, it is also our intent to create alliances that increase awareness, decrease prejudices and create a safe school atmosphere for all.”

Why are Pronouns Important?

Pronouns are essential because they recognize and respect an individual's gender identity. They are a fundamental part of inclusive language, allowing people to express themselves authentically and be seen for who they truly are. Using the correct pronouns shows support and validates someone's gender identity, promoting a more inclusive and respectful society. By embracing pronouns, we foster a sense of belonging, promote gender equality, and contribute to a world where everyone's identity is acknowledged and valued.

Gender Justice Glossary via UCSD

This list has been created collaboratively between the staff at the UC San Diego Women’s Center and UC San Diego LGBT Resource Center. We built this page together as both Centers seek to create space for thinking critically about gender and power, as well as the impact of gender, gender identity and gender expression on individuals, communities and institutions. Intersectional feminism and its understanding of patriarchy, white supremacy and power guides our approach. We hope that this information helps you in your exploration of gender justice issues.
