Accreditation

Accreditation is a comprehensive process for evaluating and certifying the quality of education and is designed to assure students and the greater public that an educational institution meets or exceeds standards of good practice recognized by the educational community. Accreditation assures that college course credits, associate degrees, and occupational certificates will be recognized by other colleges and universities, guaranteeing that academic work may be transferred in pursuit of advanced degrees.

San Diego City College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges, 428 J Street, Suite 400, Sacramento, CA 95814, (415) 506-0234, an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education. Additional information about accreditation, including the filing of complaints against member institutions, can be found at: www.accjc.org.

City College's most recent comprehensive review was conducted in 2023-2024. In October 2023, a Peer Review Team examined City College's Institutional Self Evaluation Report and supporting evidence. Members of the Peer Review Team conducted a site visit to the College on February 28-29, 2024, and completed a Peer Review Team Report. On June 12, 2024, ACCJC issued an action letter reaffirming City College's accreditation for seven years. The next scheduled report will be the Midterm Report due on March 15, 2028. The next comprehensive review will take place in the 2030-2031 academic year.
